Role Summary:

The Allocate Cloud Operations team delivers SaaS services that supports over 1,000,000 healthcare workers in the UK and globally. The Cloud Operations team is accountable for the day to day management of cloud infrastructure and service quality. The role of a Senior Cloud Operations Specialist will be integral to new solution design within our cloud, adhering to “AWS well-architected” best practices, whilst working as part of a growing team to build and maintain the right cloud infrastructure architecture, balancing performance and resilience with cost.

Senior Cloud Operations Specialist will report directly into the Cloud Operations Director and will work with a variety of internal teams and stakeholders, the successful candidate requires a demonstrably high-level of work experience in this field with any AWS Certification an advantage (AWS Certified Solutions Architect – associate as a minimum qualification).

• Managing, supporting, maintaining and improving the project’s infrastructure, automation, continuous integration system and application release process.
• Infrastructure automation leveraging configuration management tools (Puppet) and IaC toolsets (Terraform).
• Cross functional agile teams who own their products in a Continuous Delivery environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Managing complex multi-tier enterprise infrastructure environments.
• In-depth knowledge of platform and application automated deployment technologies.
• Understanding of software and infrastructure architecture including performance tuning applications, infrastructure and databases – proven experience
• Ability to work on several work streams with good time management.
• Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies and to be able to apply these to project work and everyday activities.
• Proven experience with Terraform and Puppet to provision and manage infrastructure and Collaborate with the team and others to deliver high quality solutions
• Knowledge of Virtualisation technologies – mainly VMWare
• Advanced Scripting skills including use of scripting languages such as Node.js, Ruby, Python and/or PowerShell.
• Competent knowledge architecting SQL Server production environments and pro-active maintenance (Health checks, server optimisation, maintenance plans).
• SQL query monitoring, feeding back high-cost / slow running queries, index optimisation etc… to product owners.
• Capable of working in a high-pressure environment.

Other beneficial Skills:

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional accreditation.
• Understanding of monitoring and analytical tools such as Prometheus / Splunk.
• In-depth configuration management (Puppet / consul, automation and scripting skills including use of a scripting language such as Ruby and/or PowerShell.
• Hands on experience with AWS Lambda.
