About the company:

Bucim DOО Radovish is the only operating cooper mine in North Macedonia. It is located in Radovish in southeastern North Macedonia. Bucim is an open pit mine which produces a concentrate containing copper and gold. Since 2005, the Bucim mine has been a part of Solway Investment Group, which has enabled Bucim to pursue a new path and secured the mine’s long-term prospects. With 650 employees, the mine is the largest local employer in the region and is fully committed to its social and environmental responsibilities.

Purpose of the job:

Bucim are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sustainability Manager to lead and coordinate the development and implementation of their sustainability strategy, framework, and program at Bucim, their combined open-pit mine and processing plant in North Macedonia. The role will focus on strengthening sustainability performance across health & safety, environment, social and community engagement, and business ethics, while ensuring alignment with Solway Group’s broader sustainability strategy and international best practices. Reporting to the COO of Bucim and the Head of Sustainability at Solway Group, the Sustainability Manager will work closely with operational teams, corporate functions, external consultants, and key stakeholders to embed sustainability practices into daily operations, enhance governance and assurance, and build relationships with local communities and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement and improve Bucim’s sustainability framework, policies, and management systems in line with Group guidance and international standards
• Conduct sustainability risk and materiality assessments to inform local strategy and priorities
• Oversee sustainability data collection, management, and reporting to ensure robust, accurate, and transparent disclosures
• Support operational management in meeting sustainability requirements, targets, and performance improvements
• Lead internal and external engagement to build awareness and understanding of Bucim’s sustainability commitments and performance
• Represent Bucim in relevant industry bodies and forums, and contribute to stakeholder communications

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field
• 3–5 years of experience in sustainability management, preferably in mining, natural resources, or heavy industry
• Strong technical knowledge across sustainability domains, including health & safety, environmental management, and community engagement
• Understanding of Macedonian and international sustainability standards, frameworks, and regulations
• Experience with sustainability reporting, metrics, and performance monitoring
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, with strong analytical and communication abilities
• Fluency in Macedonian and English. Knowledge of any other languages is a plus
• Ability to travel and successfully complete background and criminal record checks
